Everybody loves a beautiful, textured stock - it's just so tactile!
Peterkin has a huge range of textured stocks. Our Gmund Colors Matt range has a classic matte surface with subtle texture, while the earth-toned Japanese Woodland is much more textured with a delicate dimple impression reminiscent of vintage parchment paper.
And the idea of printing on a textured stock is even more appealing....
HOWEVER!
Designs with large areas of solid colour are not as suited to stocks that are textured, compared to a smoother stock. The toner doesn’t fuse properly into all of the lumps and bumps of the stock, so the results can be patchy, uneven and might even look like they haven't been printed properly.
Here's a few examples of large areas of solid colour and also fine text on textured stocks and how they can print:
If you're after the best quality printing you can achieve digitally, OR your design has large areas of solid colour, then you'll need to choose a smoother stock.
Of course, you might actually like some of the effects of printing solid areas on textured stocks. They can look more handmade, each piece will be unique! So, although we won't recommend printing solids on our most textured stocks (and the results aren't covered under our Printery Guarantee). If that's the look you want? Then go for it!
Top Tips from the Printery Peeps
- Check out the 'Our Paper' tab on the website. Here you'll find details about the stocks, weights and which printery process are suitable for each brand.
- Order a sample print first but remember that the colour of digital printing will vary across a larger run (the more you print, the more noticeable), and that colour banding and colour variation is unavoidable.
