Using a QR code is super popular, and an easy way for invitees to respond to an event. Adding a QR code as part of your RSVP can reduce the need for a card to be formally returned by post (although many people choose to do both).
QR codes are generated online and there's many free sites offering the codes. However, when it comes to printing there's a few things to remember.
Digital printing
Most QR codes are generated as a low resolution bitmap RGB .png file - which means they can look blurred, bitmapped and less crisp than text or images on your design. You also might not be able to change the colour of the code easily.
If you've chosen to print digitally and your generator has the option for a higher resolution file - take the opportunity! The best printing will be with a high-resolution vector file.

.SVG and .EPS files will be in Vector format, and you can use these in your design. Remember we can only print .PDF files,
White ink digital printing
To print white ink digitally, Peterkin requires you to supply your artwork as 100% black CMYK or #000000 if designing in Canva. Please make sure your QR code is a high-resolution vector. See above for more information.
Letterpress, foiling and embossing
- We don't recommend using QR codes for letterpress printing due to the shadows caused by the impression, and slight distortion of the image. Larger codes, letterpressed in black only can be achieved, but due to the hand-made nature of letterpress, this wouldn't be covered under our Reprint Guarantee if the code failed to work or you were unhappy with the results.
- You can foil a QR code. Artwork must be supplied as per our guidelines as 100% black CMYK or #000000 if designing in Canva. Please make sure your QR code is a high-resolution vector.
- It's not possible to emboss a QR code due to the distortion of the image when the stock is squeezed between the two embossing plates.
If you want a QR code AND letterpress, foiling or embossing, then your best option is to order your choice of finish + digital printing. You can then have the best of both! 🙂
