Digitally printed samples are a fantastic way to check your artwork, see how your design looks on different card or paper stocks, or create samples of your designs for your customers.
We always recommend printing a sample first. Samples are not available for Rigid Signage and Posters, Letterpress, Hot Foil Press, Embossing or Edge Foiling due to the costs and time involved in creating metal plates etc for these processes.
However, if you want to print a lot of samples (10+) on the same stock, then there's two choices to make printing lots of samples more economical for you.
1) If you have multiple designs but they're all the same size and printed on the same card stock:
- Choose the finished size you'd like from The Printery 'Printing by (finished) size' menu item.
Your samples must have same print finish (i.e digital white ink), we can't mix different types of digital printing or different die cut shapes on the same order item.
- Upload a multiple page PDF (one design per page) and order the same quantity of prints.
- Choose your die cut shape if required.
This is an example of multiple sample designs that are all 120x180mm, they're printed on the same stock (Gmund Duck Egg) and trimmed to that size. |
2) If you have multiple designs with different sizes but printed on the same card stock:
- Create an A4 or A3 document and place as many designs as you can fit on the page (this is known as 'imposition'). Make sure your individual designs have crop marks, so you can cut these out yourself as we're unable to trim each size when artwork has been supplied in this way.
- It doesn't matter how you arrange your designs - but remember to add 3mm bleed to your A3 document if your multiple designs go right up to the edge. Your printing will be supplied as in the example below.
This is an example of an A3 document set up with six different sized designs that were printed on Gmund Duck Egg. |
Then:
- Choose The Printery 'Printing by (finished) size' menu item.
- Choose A4 or A3 printing depending on the size of your artwork.
Your samples must have same print finish (i.e digital white ink), we can't mix different types of digital printing or different die cut shapes on the same order item.
GOOD TO KNOW
What you order is what you get. If you order A3 pages, that’s what you’ll receive. If you order 120x180mm, that’s what you’ll receive. Even if your A3 has multiple 120x180mm designs, we'll trim to the size ordered, not the sizes on the artwork.
