Borders can be tricky due to the possible movement we can experience in the printing/trimming process (up to 3mm). It causes the border to appear uneven, and because the border follows the edge of the card, the eye can quite easily pick up on the movement.
We recommend borders are a 5mm minimum from the edge (8-10mm is even better) so that if we experience some slight movement the eye won’t pick it up as easily.
Borders with bleed
If your solid border goes right to the edge of your design, please extend it into the bleed by 3mm. Again, we highly recommend that your border is a minimum 8-10mm to avoid it looking uneven when trimmed.
Double sided digital printing and double-thick (duplexed) stocks
We don’t recommend double-sided borders at all due to possible movement. AND because we trim from the front of your printed design, it's possible that the reverse side will be slightly misaligned and can be quite noticeable. Because of this, designs with borders on both sides aren't covered under our Printery Guarantee if you're unhappy with the result as we've advised against it.
Die cut shapes and borders
