Embossing (or Blind Embossing) is a gorgeous traditional method that creates tactile impact without any colour.
This luxury method is most suitable for hero elements of your design like names, large florals or patterns for instance.
Embossed elements are often combined with Digital Printing (like the coasters above which means you can have personalised names printed) or Hot Foil Press for an extra luxurious and glamourous look!
Embossing is not recommended for small text or thin / small designs as legibility can be an issue.
Be sure to check out our Artwork Guidelines for important details to consider when creating your design for embossing.
How is it done?
Embossing requires two custom-made plates that fit into each other with precision, so that when the paper is pressed between them, the raised plate forces the stock into the recessed plate.
The results are a beautiful permanently raised area that’s hard to resist running your fingers over.
Embossing is not an exact science (it's an artform!), and the success of the results will vary depending on your design. Although elements of your design may meet our minimum requirements, this isn't a guarantee that we'd recommend embossing as a finish - you might achieve better results with another print finish like Letterpress for instance.
To check it's suitable and meets our guidelines submit your design and our Customer Happiness Managers will let you know ASAP if there's any issues to fix or you're good to place your order. 😊
